Chigee SR1 Review: The 77GHz Radar That Fixes Motorcycle Blind Spots

A naked bike like the Triumph Trident 660 is built for the pure experience of the ride, and that purity comes with a price: you are completely exposed. Most of us spend half our time staring at our own elbows in the mirrors, trying to work out whether that SUV is in the next lane or sitting right on our tail. Considering that motorcyclists are roughly 28 times more likely to die in a crash than the people in cars, squinting at a vibrating mirror is not much of a safety system. So I installed the Chigee SR1, a weatherproof 77GHz radar that cuts through rain, fog, and darkness to tell you exactly what is happening in your blind spots.

Why 77GHz Actually Matters
Most cheap aftermarket sensors run on 24GHz, which is easily confused by guardrails and traffic signs. The SR1 uses 77GHz, the industry gold standard, and it provides millimeter-level accuracy. Unlike a camera, it does not care if it is pitch black, pouring rain, or thick with fog. If there is a vehicle behind you, it will find it. It works by firing radio waves that bounce off objects and return to the sensor 15 times a second, constantly calculating two things: distance and closing speed. It is smart enough to ignore a parked car you are riding past, but the moment a vehicle enters your danger zone, up to 70 meters back, the system springs to life.

Four Safety Nets Running at Once
The SR1 runs four modes simultaneously. Blind-spot detection watches your no-zones any time you are over six miles per hour and flags a car hiding where your mirrors cannot see. Lane-change assist is the predictive one: if you are about to move over and the radar sees a car 50 meters back closing fast, it warns you before you commit. Active overtake alert solves the mistake we have all made, passing a car and tucking back in too early, by telling you exactly when you have cleared it. And rear-collision warning is the genuine lifesaver: if someone behind you is not braking and an impact is imminent, it fires a high-priority emergency alert.
Living With the Install
Putting tech on a naked bike is always a game of where do I hide the wires, because there are no fairings to duck behind. Chigee earns early points by including everything you need in the box, so you are not running to the hardware store halfway through. I tucked the slim cables along the frame rails and under the gas tank, and the real battle, honestly, was the spaghetti under the seat, where the Trident gives you almost no room to work. It is a Tetris puzzle back there, but once you sort the routing it all tucks away. I also took a little liberty with the radar itself, offsetting it onto the top of the turn signal rather than the brake light. It feels more secure and the field of view is still perfect. How you mount yours will depend entirely on your bike.
The Mirrors and the Remote Are the Secret Weapons
While I was in there, I swapped the Triumph’s mirrors for Chigee’s radar mirrors, and they are a massive upgrade. They are crystal clear, completely distortion-free, and they do not vibrate at all. The genius part is the integration: the blind-spot indicator is built right into the mirror stalk, so when the radar detects someone beside you, a subtle but bright glow appears exactly where your eyes already are. If you love your current mirrors, though, the SR1 is not all or nothing. It ships with small, discreet LED indicators you can stick onto your existing mirrors or anywhere in your sightline.

The other quiet hero is the CGRC remote controller, a little joystick and button cluster that sits right where your thumb naturally rests. Instead of reaching across to tap the screen while you are chasing a canyon, you toggle radar alerts, adjust volume, handle music and navigation, and answer a call through your headset without ever moving your hand off the grip. Paired with the AIO-6 head unit, the whole thing gives the Trident an OEM-plus feel, the difference between a tablet zip-tied to the bars and a genuinely integrated smart cockpit.

It Does Not Just Warn You. It Warns Them.
On the AIO-6 screen you also get a radar view with little triangles for every vehicle around you, and I will admit it is the screen I use most, because it makes me feel like I am piloting a Viper in Battlestar Galactica. But my favorite feature points backward, at the other driver. The SR1 has a built-in high-intensity strobe that, when it detects a vehicle closing too fast from behind, flashes a rapid warning pattern to try to wake the driver up and get them on the brakes.
It turns your bike from a passive target into an active participant in your own safety.
The Verdict
I did not expect to like this as much as I do. We took a minimalist, purebred naked bike and gave it the situational awareness of a luxury car without ruining the sleek British look. That extra intelligence about what is happening around you is the part that makes the whole Chigee system more than just CarPlay and a nice screen. It is genuinely useful, it scales from a set of stick-on LEDs up to the full radar-mirror cockpit, and on a bike this exposed, a little more information about your six is worth a lot. Watch your mirrors, or better yet, let the radar do the watching for you.
